Article One Section Eight

Too often we speak of the constitutional limitations of the federal government as though citizens/readers know what Congress may do as listed in Article One Section Eight of the Constitution.Few people that I know of actually do. Most have not read anything of it since their high school days, and then were often taught by teachers that knew little more about it than they did.In light of the present"crisis"in misunderstanding,it would seem that there is no better time than now to become re-acquainted with this most important of documents.

Remember that every elected government official swears to " uphold the Constitution"before he or she takes office. If they proceed to ignore the limits of Article One Section Eight, they are guilty of lying under oath. Lying under oath is perjury. Perhaps someone should send George Bush a copy? The Revolution will not be televised.

Yeah, George Bush, Howard Dean, every member of the House and Senate, and every judge on every court, especially the Supreme Court.

Sage, I have a feeling the government officials who have sworn to "uphold the Constitution" may be as knowledgeable of the Constitution as that high school teacher you were talking about. I probably wouldn't go as far as calling it "perjury", but it something far worse: ignorance. Unfortunately, that's not punishable by law.

Perhaps the next time there's a "town-hall meeting" type debate or a confirmation hearing for a judge, someone should ask the candidate(s) what the Constitution says about this or that, then have the answers, compared side by side with the relevant passages from the Constitution, published somewhere online or in the media. We may be surprised at what we find.

Rocker, If Bush is really ignorant of this, then the people who have been questioning his intelligence all of this time have been vindicated. actually, I think he is ignorant, and he hopes you are too so that he can continue the on-going transfer of power from the people to King George(III)?,perish the thought! As far as having a"real'conservation with a candidate at a debate goes,we both know that there isn't a candidate running for anything that would allow questions of that nature to make front and center, especially at their expense(political). Those things are strictly for public consumption, and to present the candidates in a positive light. Anything that would do less would be deleted, pronto!

I wouldn't say that, mainly because the people questioning his intelligence are even more guilty of it than he is.

As far as the "real conversation" thing goes, you made my point quite nicely.

That may be true, but they have not sworn an oath, and he has,so he is either a liar,or an ignoramus.

If the point that you are making here is that they are not intelligent enough to question his intelligence, then God help us all,the watchdog is not just asleep,he is now unable to identify the wolf! However, I am,and I hope you are too! The Revolution will not be televised!

Well, Sage, I have known for some time that you can't get over this idea that President Bush is evil.

And you have known for just as long that I disagree.

At least beyond the simple fact that all government officials are by nature evil to one degree or another.

Government in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.

OK OK sheesh! I been on the Paine thing all week. Maybe it's time to get off it.

I can't ignore the obvious, college educations come pretty easy these days, especially when you can afford to buy the campus, however Yale is still a pretty good school. You really need to check out the history/profile of this family. Disinformation is the modus operandi, and has been for most of the last century. Its a family thing! And as far as I'm concerned, the direction that we are headed, and most especially with Bush's leadership, will soon render this government "intolerable". When that occurs, life will be a real "pain' and we'll all find the words of "Paine" to be very painful! Yeah, I guess we've had enough pain for now!
